Sanjay Leela Bhansali ropes in Anju Mahendru for Heeramandi - Exclusive - Times of India
Actress Anju Mahendru is the latest actor to join the cast of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's much-talked about web series Heeramandi. A source told ETimes, "Sanjay Leela Bhansali has specially written the role for Anju and she is playing the head of tawaifs in the web series."
The source further added, "Not only the role even her look has been specifically designed by Bhansali." It will be interesting to see how Anju Mahendru's character and look plays out in Heeramandi. Anju has been part of popular shows recently. She was seen in the TV show Appnapan and the web series Parchhayee.
Recently, we've heard reports of SLB scrapping the roles meant for Shabana Azmi and Mumtaz in Heeramandi. While there has been no official word on these developments, Mumtaz has in recent interactions revealed that she was indeed slated to be part of the show.
Bhansali is going to have a sit down discussion on Heeramandi tomorrow with Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos. The show has begun shooting last year and SLB's assistant Mitakshara Kumar is going to take over directorial duties from the second episode. SLB is going to direct the opening episode.
