7 ways to improve your digestion today
it's not what you eat, it's what you digest
Agni is our digestive fire and its job is to digest everything we take in... food, sounds, thoughts, conversations, our environment and so on.
When we ask our body to process thoughts and ideas while we are eating, we are asking our agni to multitask.
Simply stated, our body can't digest food properly when it's also digesting other things.
a holistic view
Ayurveda is a holistic science. This means that our attitude around eating matters just as much as the actual food.
Ayurveda teaches that everything we consume takes us toward or away from our natural state of balance. If we are distracted while we eat even the healthiest food can become toxic to our system.
What does this look like in real life?
For me, it meant giving up reading or working on my laptop during the time my toddler naps. I used to cram in as much as I could during my precious alone time, but multitasking isn't fair to my digestive fire and does not create ideal eating conditions.
Our body processes food best under peaceful conditions.
mindful eating to support agni
Take a deep breath before eating.
Practice a moment of gratitude for the farmer and the land that made your food possible.
Chew until the food is liquid in your mouth.
Put your utensil down between bites.
Avoid technology, reading, or stressful conversation while eating.
Avoid eating on the go.
Create a soothing environment to enjoy your meals.
